Nollywood actress Toke Makinwa, 40, has shared her wish to remarry, describing marriage as one of the most beautiful institutions, despite its difficulties.
She made these remarks during a recent podcast interview with British-Nigerian media personality Madame Joyce.
In a recent podcast interview with British-Nigerian media personality Madame Joyce, she shared, “People often assume that I dislike men or that I’m a feminist who criticizes them.
However, I have been married in the past, and I believe that marriage is one of the most beautiful institutions.”
She compared marriage to the relationship between siblings, saying, “At first, it’s all excitement when your siblings visit—you match your pajamas, share a bed, and catch up on lost time. But by the third day, it’s like, ‘Close my door, who took my shoes, where are my earrings? When are you leaving? I need a break.’ That’s how I felt about it.”
She continued, “There were times when I’d rush home to tell my ex-husband about my day, but other times I’d wake up thinking, ‘God, why did I marry this person? This can’t be life, it feels like hell.’ It didn’t work out years ago, but I still appreciate the institution of marriage, and I do want to marry again.
She mentioned, “It hasn’t happened yet, but I’m not ruling it out. I’m just taking my time. Maybe it’s not God’s timing yet. When the time comes, I just hope I’m not wrinkled,” she joked with a laugh.
Toke Makinwa was previously married to businessman Maje Ayida in 2014, but their marriage ended in 2017.
Recently, there were rumors that she had secretly married her longtime rumored partner, Farouk Umar.
However, the actress quickly dismissed the claims, clarifying that they are just “best friends” and that the event in question was actually a thanksgiving ceremony, not a wedding.
