Nigerian international music star, Divine Ikubor, widely known as Rema, has contributed N105 million to Christ Embassy Church in Benin City, Edo State.
According to the report, the Edo-born artist was in the state to mark the Edo@33 celebration, where he also took part in the groundbreaking ceremony for the 6,000-seat Edo Dome and performed at a musical concert at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium, following an invitation from the state government.
Rema, who made the donation to the Edo Regional Headquarters of the church on Erediauwa Street, off Ekenwa Road, explained that it was a gesture of gratitude for the support the church provided to his family during a challenging time in his childhood.
The international music star, who attended the church for a thanksgiving service, reflected on the church’s support for his family following the loss of his father when he was only eight years old.
He stated, “I’m not here to seek recognition or glory for myself, but to give all the glory to God. I felt it was important to give back to the church that has welcomed me, prayed for me, and kept me spiritually grounded.”
When I was eight years old and lost my father, we felt lost and abandoned. Everything we had was taken from us, and we felt completely alone. I remember that Pastor Joy and Pastor Thomas, the pastors of this church, helped my mother by opening a shop for her, which she used to support and feed us,” he recalled.
In a gesture of gratitude for the church’s support during that difficult time, he decided to donate N150 million to the church.
“First, I want to pledge N40 million towards the church’s infrastructural development, N20 million to the Rhapsody of Realities publication, and, since I came from the teen church, I also want to pledge N25 million to support it.
Additionally, I am pledging N20 million to assist any widows present in the church today,” he stated.
