Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s Presidential Candidate in the 2023 election, has intervened in the dispute between the Dangote Group and federal regulators concerning the Dangote Refinery.

In a series of tweets on his X handle, Peter Obi encouraged the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation and other government agencies to handle their dispute with Dangote cautiously, considering the significant impact their actions could have on the Nigerian economy. He argued that the refinery should receive full support to operate rather than face criticism.

Obi argues that instead of criticizing Dangote Refinery, we should provide full support, considering the troubling conflicts with government agencies.

This matter goes beyond politics and personal disputes, focusing on Nigeria’s economic prosperity, future prospects, and the welfare of its people. Resolving these disputes promptly is crucial, given Alhaji Dangote’s substantial contributions to the nation.

“Government agencies should be instructed to provide the necessary support for the smooth launch and operation of the Dangote Refinery and its related businesses.

The refinery could potentially generate around $21 billion in annual revenue and create over 100,000 jobs, along with numerous other economic benefits.

Its crucial role in resolving Nigeria’s fuel crisis, increasing foreign exchange earnings, and promoting economic growth is of immense importance.”

Despite operating in a difficult business environment, he has created an impressive industrial hub in Nigeria, spanning over 15 sectors such as cement, sugar, salt, fertilizer, infrastructure, tomatoes, automotive, energy, petrochemicals, rice, poly sacks, real estate, mining, logistics, and maritime.

Alhaji Dangote’s steadfast commitment to Nigeria’s industrialization, job creation, and economic growth, even in the face of challenges, deserves complete support and protection.

Given worsening economic indicators such as unemployment, inflation, Forex scarcity, and debt, any sensible and patriotic government should view enterprises like Dangote Industries as national treasures that deserve strong support and protection.

For the benefit of Nigeria, its citizens, and Africans as a whole, I call on the Federal Government and its agencies to offer Dangote Industries, particularly the refinery, all necessary support.”
