Pastor Helen Ukpabio Seeks N200 Billion in Damages From Bloody Civilian Over Alleged Defamation

Renowned Nigerian pastor Helen Ukpabio has filed a demand for N200 billion in damages against singer Bloody Civilian over allegations of defamation.

The dispute arose after the singer accused Ukpabio, founder of Liberty Gospel Church, of “literally encouraging people to burn their children alive.”

Bloody Civilian made the comment on Friday in response to a post on X celebrating the pastor’s 60th birthday.

Bloody Civilian also posted a YouTube documentary criticizing Ukpabio’s methods and beliefs.

In response to the singer’s remarks, Ukpabio’s daughter, Imabong, issued a five-hour ultimatum for the post to be deleted, warning of potential legal action.

Through a letter from her lawyer, Ukpabio condemned the accusation, calling it “reckless, malicious, and defamatory.”

Ukpabio is seeking N200 billion in damages for the distress, trauma, pain, and anguish caused, and has also requested a public apology from Bloody Civilian.

In response on her X handle, Bloody Civilian downplayed the situation, joking that she is now offering additional services, such as comedy, to cover the damages.

She wrote, “Guys, I’ve just been sued for 200 billion naira. This December, I’ll be adding stand-up comedy, weddings, and dispute resolution to my services.”
