Officers of the Nigeria Police Force have detained Nigerian artist Darlington Okoye, widely known as Speed Darlington, just two months after his previous release.
According to a reporter, the singer, also known as Akpi, was taken into custody on October 4 after releasing a controversial video in which he allegedly mocked fellow artist Burna Boy’s connection with American rapper Diddy, who has faced FBI investigations over allegations of sexual exploitation.
The outspoken Nigerian artist was granted bail on October 9 after spending five days in detention.
His lawyer, Deji Adeyanju, revealed the recent arrest on Wednesday through a post on his official Facebook page.
He stated, “Our client, Speed Darlington, also known as AKPI, has been arrested by the Nigerian police in Owerri during his show upon his return to Nigeria.”
Attempts by a reporter to contact the Nigeria Police Force regarding the issue were unsuccessful, as the Force Public Relations Officer, Olumuyiwa Adejobi, did not respond to calls.
