Nollywood actor IK Ogbonna has criticized the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) over the reported rise of “fake miracles” in certain churches.
In an Instagram post on Wednesday, Ogbonna stated that misusing God’s name for deceit is a betrayal of the gospel.
The actor urged Christians to be wary of social media trends that undermine their faith, while also calling on the federal government and CAN to take action in regulating and holding those responsible accountable.
“It is disheartening to witness pastors fabricating miracles to deceive and exploit vulnerable individuals. These actions tarnish the genuine essence of Christianity, turning faith into a show for personal gain. The results? Broken trust, lost lives, and faith being manipulated for profit.”
To those pastors, it’s time to reflect. Misusing God’s name for deceit is a betrayal of the gospel. Victims should remember that their faith is sacred, and genuine miracles do not stem from lies.
“Let’s also be mindful not to be carried away by social media trends that mock and disrespect our faith. Christianity should never be exploited for likes, views, or viral content.”
“I urge the government and religious organizations like CAN to take action, regulate, and hold wrongdoers accountable. Christianity is not about fraud, manipulation, or mockery. Let’s work to preserve the integrity of our faith!”
The actor’s statement followed a controversial video involving members of The Lord’s Chosen Charismatic Revival Ministries, where an elderly woman claimed she was robbed by four armed men but miraculously gained control of their weapons after declaring, “I’m a chosen.”
Similarly, another man testified that a lion saved him from kidnappers by lifting him into the air and leading him to safety.
Additionally, one man claimed he escaped from kidnappers and survived machete attacks and gunshots “without sustaining any injuries.”!”
