Nigerian musician Ice Prince has stated that he, not Davido, was the first African artist to receive a BET award on stage during the ceremony.
According to the reporter, African artists were traditionally presented with their BET awards backstage until recent years.
In a recent episode of Listening, Ice Prince, the winner of the 2013 Best International Act, Africa Award, asserted that he was the first to break the norm of African artists receiving BET awards backstage, not Davido, as fans often claim.
“I am the first African artist to step onto a BET stage and accept an award solo… but people wrongly credit Davido for that,” he stated.
Davido gained widespread attention with his acceptance speech at the 2018 BET Awards after winning the Best International Act category.
Back then in his speech, he called for greater collaborations between American and African musicians.
