A well known gospel singer Sinach has been sued by music producer Michael Oluwole, also known as Maye, over claims of copyright infringement.

Maye filed a lawsuit demanding N5 billion in damages for the alleged infringement related to Way Maker, Sinach’s 2016 hit song.

In case number FHC/L/CS/402/2024, Maye is seeking recognition as a co-author and co-owner of the song, along with general damages amounting to N5 billion for the violation of his rights.

Sinach has refuted the producer’s allegations, asserting that she is the sole author of the song and emphasizing that her global recognition predates the release of Way Maker.

The trial, which commenced on Wednesday, November 27, 2024, at the Federal High Court in Lagos, has been adjourned to January 29 and 30, 2025.
