South African singer Tyla dazzled at the 30th MTV Europe Music Awards in Manchester, UK, on Sunday, taking home three awards.
She overcame tough competition from Nigerian artists like Asake, Tems, Rema, Burna Boy, and Ayra Starr to secure the Best Afrobeats Artist award.
Tyla also claimed the Best African Act award, beating out Ayra Starr, Asake, DBN Gogo, TitoM & Yuppe, and Diamond Platnumz.
Her third win for the night came in the Best R&B Artist category, where she triumphed over American stars like Kehlani, SZA, Tinashe, Usher, and Victoria Monét.
She ended the memorable night with an acoustic performance of her popular song ‘Water.’
On the other hand, Nigerian singer Ayra Starr missed out on all four of her nominations – Best African Act, Best New Artist, Best Afrobeats Artist, and Best Push.
Earlier this year, Tyla triumphed over Nigerian artists to win the inaugural Best African Music Performance award at the Grammys. She also took home the Best Afrobeats Artist title, defeating Nigerian artists, at the 2024 MTV Music Video Awards.
