The Nigerian government has recovered $52.88 million in Galactica assets from the United States, linked to former Petroleum Minister Diezani Alison-Madueke
Attorney-General and Minister of Justice Lateef Fagbemi announced this during the signing of the asset agreement between Nigeria and the U.S. in Abuja today 10/1/25.
In his remarks, Fagbemi stated that $50 million of the recovered assets will be used for a rural electrification project through the World Bank, while $2 million will go to the International Institute of Justice to strengthen the justice system and combat corruption.
The Attorney-General emphasized that the asset recovery signifies a key milestone in Nigeria-U.S. collaboration against corruption and the promotion of the rule of law.
He also highlighted the Tinubu administration’s commitment is to address corruption.
Furthermore, U.S. Ambassador Richard Mills urged the effective monitoring and use of the recovered funds for the benefit of Nigerians.
