Ogun Cultist Sentenced to 7 Years in Prison After Admitting to Being an Eiye Member

A 24-year-old man, Sodiq Okeowo, was sentenced to seven years in prison by an Ogun Special Cultism Court in Abeokuta on Friday for being a member of a secret cult.

Okeowo, who has no permanent address, was found guilty on two charges: conspiracy and affiliation with an illegal group.

Magistrate Mrs. O.O. Adebo stated that the prosecution had proven its case beyond reasonable doubt, leading to Okeowo’s conviction. He was sentenced to five years for conspiracy and seven years for his involvement in a secret cult.

The magistrate also imposed the sentence without the option of a fine and ordered that the terms be served concurrently.

Earlier, the prosecutor, Inspector Olaide Rawlings, informed the court that the defendant committed the crimes on January 15 in the Sabo area of Sagamu Local Government, Ogun State.

Rawlings revealed that the defendant confessed to being a member of the Eiye confraternity secret cult, having been initiated by one Azeez.

He stated that he joined the cult out of desperation for housing, as they promised to provide him with free accommodation. The prosecutor also noted that the defendant’s actions violated Section 34.
