Edo State Deputy Governor, Honourable Dennis Idahosa, revealed that Senator Adams Oshiomhole opposed the appointment of his son, Cyril, as the state’s Commissioner for Health.

Idahosa explained that Cyril secured the role based on his qualifications, dismissing claims of his father’s alleged influence.

Governor Monday Okpebholo recently included Cyril in his cabinet, subject to confirmation by the Edo State House of Assembly.

During an interview on Channels Television’s Sunrise Daily program on Wednesday, November 20, 2024, Idahosa emphasized that Cyril’s appointment did not have his father’s backing.

The Deputy Governor highlighted Cyril’s impressive qualifications, describing him as an ideal candidate for the role of Commissioner.

“Cyril is an experienced medical doctor who completed his studies in Nigeria before advancing his education in the United States. He is fully equipped to serve in the cabinet,” Idahosa remarked.

He further argued that Cyril’s familial ties to Senator Oshiomhole should not prevent him from holding a position he is fully qualified to handle.

Senator Adams Oshiomhole serves as a Senator in Nigeria, and his son, like anyone else, has his own path to follow. Cyril is an experienced medical doctor who studied in Nigeria before continuing his education in the United States. He is more than qualified to be part of the cabinet.

Being the son of Oshiomhole does not disqualify Cyril from holding a position for which he is qualified. His appointment as Commissioner for Health is based on merit.

“This appointment has nothing to do with Adams Oshiomhole. In fact, he opposed it because of the governor’s vision for the people of Edo state,” he explained.
