Federal agents in the US allegedly raided the jail cell of American rapper Diddy.
Reports indicate that authorities confiscated several privileged materials and personal notes intended for his legal team ahead of an upcoming trial.
Diddy’s attorney, Marc Agnifilo, claimed that prosecutors are using the seized private legal documents to justify keeping the rapper in custody until his trial in May.
In a new filing in Manhattan federal court, Diddy’s defense team accused authorities of seizing documents that were legally privileged and should not have been accessed by prosecutors.
His lawyer informed Judge Arun Subramanian, stating, “This search and seizure violate Combs’ Fourth, Fifth, and Sixth Amendment rights.”
The legal team also demanded that prosecutors disclose who authorized the search of Diddy’s cell, during which personal belongings and paperwork were confiscated.
Judge Arun Subramanian gave prosecutors a deadline of 5 p.m. ET on Monday to respond to Diddy’s legal team and scheduled a hearing on the issue for Tuesday afternoon.
According to a reporter, Judge Subramanian, however, gave prosecutors until 5pm ET Monday to respond to Diddy’s lawyers and set a hearing on the matter for Tuesday afternoon.
