Former President Muhammadu Buhari has praised the All Progressives Congress (APC) for its success in the Ondo State governorship election held on Saturday, which secured the re-election of Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa.
Reacting to the election outcome, Buhari stated that the voters had delivered a clear and strong message of their confidence in the party and its leadership.
In a statement issued on Sunday by his spokesperson, Garba Shehu, Buhari emphasized that the will of the voters, expressed through the ballot box, must be respected by all stakeholders.
The former President noted that the election outcome demonstrates the resilience of democracy in a vast and diverse nation like Nigeria.
However, he also emphasized that it poses a challenge to the Governor-elect to implement policies that promote economic growth, address high unemployment and inflation, and enhance welfare programs to improve the lives of the people, according to the statement.
Buhari aso praised the Independent National Electoral Commission and security agencies for their progress in addressing shortcomings from past elections.
He extended his best wishes to Aiyedatiwa and his team for a successful term in office.
