Chidimma Adetshina, Nigeria’s representative, finished as the first runner-up at the 73rd Miss Universe Competition held in Mexico.
The exciting final moments of the event, held at the Arena CDMX in Mexico City, took place early Sunday morning, featuring a thrilling showdown between Nigeria and Denmark, with both women vying for the crown.
Described as one of the most captivating competitions in recent years, the event showcased the talents, intelligence, and elegance of women from across the world.
In an Instagram post, the organizers shared, “The final two! Nigeria and Denmark, two incredible women, one unforgettable moment.”
Miss Denmark, Victoria Kjaer Theilvig, emerged as the winner, succeeding Miss Universe 2023, Sheynnis Palacios of Nicaragua.
Meanwhile, Adetshina’s outstanding performance and poise garnered widespread praise from both the judges and the audience.
Earlier, Adetshina’s decision to withdraw from the Miss South Africa 2024 contest, where she had reached the final stage, sparked controversy several months ago.
She made the decision to withdraw after some South Africans raised concerns about her nationality.
However, she continued her journey, representing Taraba State and eventually winning the Miss Universe Nigeria title.
This is not the first time a Nigerian has achieved such success.
On November 16, 2001, Nigeria’s Agbani Darego made history as the first Black African to win the prestigious Miss World title at 18 years old.
Her victory made “Agbani” a term synonymous with slender beauty in Nigeria, with many women admiring her appearance.
As the first Most Beautiful Girl in Nigeria to win Miss World, Agbani’s achievement had a significant impact, marking a proud moment for both Nigeria and the entire continent.
