Many Nigerians, particularly youths, have gathered at the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) towers in Abuja, calling for the immediate resignation of the company’s Group Chief Executive Officer, Mele Kyari.
The protesters, led by various Civil Society Organizations (CSOs), criticized Kyari’s leadership as ineffective, pointing to soaring fuel prices, persistent fuel shortages, and economic hardship in Nigeria.
Holding placards with messages like “we demand the immediate resignation of Kyari,” among others, the protesters expressed that the NNPCL chief’s leadership has failed.
Abdullahi Bilal, one of the organizers, addressed journalists, urging an end to the “fraudulent fuel subsidy” and the alleged importation of tainted fuel, describing it as a damaging practice that must be halted immediately.
“Today, we call for the immediate resignation of Mele Kyari, the Group Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL).
“We demand the total elimination of the fraudulent fuel subsidy system that has only benefited a privileged few. Full deregulation is essential to bring transparency, competition, and fairness to our oil sector.
“We further demand an end to the importation of adulterated fuel into Nigeria. This harmful practice must cease at once, and those responsible should be held accountable for the damage done to our vehicles, businesses, and livelihoods,” he stated.
