Nigerian record producer and music executive, Michael Collins Ajereh, better known as Don Jazzy, has disclosed what inspired his journey into music production.
In a recent appearance on the ‘On The Grind’ podcast, Don Jazzy explained that his passion for music drove him to pursue the craft.
Highlighting his skills with various musical instruments, particularly the drums, the Mavin Records founder proudly mentioned that he can even play the drums during intimate moments.
Don Jazzy shared that his journey into music production began naturally, and he never looked back. After mastering percussion, he transitioned to jazz drums, then moved on to bass guitar, and eventually started learning the piano.
He mentioned that it was during his time in London that he realized he wanted to become a producer, but his original passion was for drums and bass guitar. He emphasized his deep connection to drumming, even joking that he drums all the time, including during intimate moments, and could even drum on a woman’s buttocks if a beat came to him in the moment.
Don Jazzy also revealed that he lived in the studio with Altims and Baby Fresh for two years.
Don Jazzy started his production career in the UK, collaborating with JJC and the 419 Squad.
In 2004, he co-founded Mo’ Hits Records with D’banj, taking on the role of the label’s in-house producer. Following the dissolution of Mo’ Hits in 2012, he established Mavin Records, where he now serves as both CEO and lead producer.
From 2011 to 2013, Don Jazzy also worked as an in-house producer for Kanye West’s GOOD Music.
