Edo Decides: Why I’m Calling for a Fair Election – Says Davido

Afrobeats artist David Adeleke, also known as Davido, has expressed his reasons for being invested in the ongoing Edo State governorship election.

According to report, there was a large voter turnout across Edo State on Saturday for the off-cycle gubernatorial election.

Davido has been publicly criticizing the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on X, accusing them of malpractice in the ongoing gubernatorial election.

His involvement has sparked curiosity, as many wonder why he is so invested in the election, given that he is not from Edo State.

Responding to the questions on his X handle, Davido clarified that his late mother, Imade Veronica Adeleke, was from Edo State.

He also added that, beyond his mother’s Edo heritage, he has a responsibility to be concerned as a Nigerian citizen.

He remembered calling out INEC during the Osun State gubernatorial election when his uncle, the current Governor Ademola Adeleke, was running.

The singer stated, “For those wondering why I’m interested in the election, my mom is from Edo… but as Nigerians, we should all be concerned. @inecnigeria, shame on you! I’ve had to come here multiple times to voice my frustrations before things improved in Osun. It’s really disappointing. God help us.”

Additionally, Davido had previously endorsed the PDP candidate Asuen Ighodalo for the Edo gubernatorial election on his Instagram account.
