The jailed Hollywood producer Harvey Weinstein has undergone emergency heart surgery after being rushed from prison to a hospital in New York.
Weinstein, currently serving a sentence for rape at Rikers Island, was transported to Bellevue Hospital on Monday, September 9, 2024.
The 72-year-old underwent a pericardiocentesis, a procedure to drain fluid from around the heart and lungs.
Weinstein’s lawyer, Craig Rothfeld, mentioned that “he is in pain from the procedure and continues to face multiple serious health issues that require attention.”
Weinstein is currently serving a 23-year sentence in New York after being convicted of sexual assault in Los Angeles in 2020.
The former filmmaker faced accusations of sexual misconduct from over 90 women, though he has consistently denied any wrongdoing.
