The Allied Conservative Congress (ACC) has criticized the Nigerian government’s recent hike in the pump price of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS).
The ACC described the government’s decision as excessive, insensitive, and a move that worsens the hardship faced by citizens.
In a statement signed by its National Chairman, Rev. Olusegun Obaje Peters, the party called for an immediate reversal of the petrol price increase.
The statement highlighted that a fuel price increase would clearly impose further hardship on citizens, worsen their conditions, and stall economic growth.
“It is concerning that the Federal Government would consider raising fuel prices so soon after the #EndHungerProtest#, as if the welfare of the people, as outlined in the 1999 Constitution of Nigeria (as amended), which states that the security and welfare of the people shall be the primary purpose of government, does not matter.”
“Governments at all levels have a duty to provide the benefits of democracy, not hardship, hunger, and suffering.”
Nigerians voted for a better life and fair treatment, not for deprivation, poverty, and hardship. The role of the government is to design and implement policies, programs, and projects focused on improving citizens’ living standards, not to impoverish or frustrate them.
“Nigerians are hardworking, resourceful, and resilient. They should be supported, motivated, and provided with a conducive environment to reach their full potential and contribute to nation-building.”
We demand an immediate reversal of the fuel price hike from ₦880 and above to ₦617. The Federal Government had previously assured Nigerians that fuel prices would decrease following the last increase, claiming that increased petroleum supply would lead to lower prices.
Currently, the situation is the opposite due to a lack of political will to address corruption and incompetence in the oil sector. Nigerians have endured enough suffering, and there is no justification for imposing further hardship on them.
The ACC urged the Federal Government to grant licenses to enable Nigerians to construct private refineries and to eliminate all obstacles in the process.
“It is time to alleviate hardship in the country through conservative governance. Nigerians want and deserve compassionate leaders who genuinely care for their well-being.”
The ACC pledged to deliver a better Nigeria through conservative principles if the party is elected in the next general elections.
