British singer Lily Allen revealed that she returned an adopted puppy after it chewed up her family’s passports.

In a recent episode of her podcast “Miss Her?”, Allen shared that she adopted the puppy named Mary during the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020 but decided to return it after it destroyed her passport and those of her two daughters, Ethel, 12, and Marnie, 11.

It turned into a complete logistical nightmare. Since the father of my children lives in England, I couldn’t take them back to see him for four or five months because this damn dog had eaten the passports. I just couldn’t stand to look at her—I felt like she had ruined my life.

The passports weren’t the only things she destroyed; she was a very misbehaved dog. I really tried hard to make it work with her, but it just didn’t happen, and the passports were the last straw, so to speak.”

While Allen resides in New York with actor Harbour, her two children are from her previous marriage to Sam Cooper in the UK.

In the meantime, the animal rights organization PETA has sent an open letter to Allen, urging her not to adopt another dog.

The organization stated that dogs “should never be viewed as accessories to be abandoned when they become inconvenient.”
