Victor Boniface might be absent from Bayer Leverkusen’s opening Bundesliga match of the season against Borussia Monchengladbach due to a potential suspension.
Boniface is currently under investigation for making unsportsmanlike gestures during Die Werkself’s German Super Cup victory over VFB Stuttgart last weekend.
If found guilty, the Nigeria international could face sanctions from the German Football Association.
“Boniface is believed to have gestured with his middle finger at the Stuttgart players as he ran past them right after the final whistle,” a spokesman told Die Tageszeitung.
The striker scored the first goal for Xabi Alonso’s team in that match.
Bayer Leverkusen will start their title defense against Borussia Monchengladbach on Friday.
