Aliko Dangote, the President and CEO of Dangote Industries Limited, has been invited by Gabon’s President Brice Nguema to invest in the country’s cement and fertilizer production.
This invitation comes amid accusations from the Nigerian government that Dangote is attempting to monopolize the oil sector.
According to a statement from Dangote Group’s media office on Tuesday, President Nguema extended the invitation to explore these investment opportunities.
“The president encouraged Dangote to investigate potential investment opportunities in Gabon’s cement and fertilizer sectors, specifically in urea and phosphate production,” stated the Dangote Group.
The statement also stated that Dangote had discussions with Nguema and other high-ranking government officials during his visit.
The discussions centered on how Dangote Industries could aid Gabon’s economic growth by setting up cement and fertilizer plants, crucial for the nation’s infrastructure and agricultural productivity.
President Nguema showed enthusiasm about the potential collaboration, emphasizing Gabon’s dedication to fostering a favorable environment for foreign investments.
He pointed out that the partnership with Dangote Industries would yield substantial benefits, such as job creation, technology transfer, and increased industrial capacity,” the statement continued.
Dangote highlighted his company’s commitment to promoting economic development throughout the continent.
He stressed that investing in Gabon’s cement and fertilizer sectors aligns with Dangote Industries’ strategic vision of expanding its presence and supporting sustainable development across Africa.
The statement added, “Dangote Industries’ potential investment in Gabon is expected to strengthen the country’s industrial sector, ensuring a steady supply of essential construction and agricultural materials.
“This initiative aligns with President Nguema’s vision of transforming Gabon into a diversified and self-sustaining economy.
“In the coming months, further discussions and assessments will be conducted to finalize the investment plans. The collaboration between Dangote Industries and the Gabonese government promises a robust partnership that will significantly impact Gabon’s economic landscape.”
