Hon. Yusuf Gagdi, the representative for Pankshin/Kanke/Kanam federal constituency in Plateau State, has reportedly given his daughter a brand-new Lexus RX crossover SUV.
This gift is to commemorate her graduation from Lead British International School, Abuja, and her outstanding results in the recent Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examinations (UTME).
Aisha Gagdi, who graduated on Saturday, received the celebratory gift of a new car, which was shared on Facebook by Saminu Maigoro.
Maigoro posted pictures of Aisha with her father and the luxury vehicle, congratulating her and noting that the car was a reward for her graduation from Lead British International School, Abuja, and her excellent performance in JAMB.
The post drew a range of responses from netizens, with some offering congratulations to Aisha and others criticizing the lawmaker for appearing insensitive to Nigeria’s present economic conditions.
One user, Kimkigo Kimkigo, extended encouragement by saying, “Congratulations and best wishes, dear sister. May this car gift at such an early stage serve as motivation rather than a privilege that distracts you from your path to success, as reflected in your academic achievements so far.”
Kamardeen Ibrahim Umar voiced frustration, underscoring the gap between politicians and ordinary Nigerians: “Congratulations to her, but how can we advance as a nation when a bright child from a typical Nigerian family struggles to pay for JAMB, WAEC, or NECO? Even if they manage to afford the exams and pass, they can’t cover the rising university tuition fees. Meanwhile, the politicians who were elected by the people are busy siphoning, stealing, and distributing our national resources for their own enjoyment and to spoil their families. We need to #EndBadGovernanceInNigeria.”
Amar Ibrahim also expressed dissatisfaction: “Look at how impoverished people are congratulating those who exploit them. How many of you can afford the type of school she attended? Nigerians are not serious! We are responsible for our own problems.
Attempts to get a response from Hon. Gagdi were unsuccessful, as he did not reply to SMS or WhatsApp messages requesting a comment.
