Oyinkansola Aderigbigbe, one of the two most streamed Nigerian artists globally on Spotify in 2024, has disclosed details about her close relationship with American superstar singer, Rihanna.
Speaking on the Capital Xtra podcast, the “Bloody Samaritan” singer shared that she adores the way the American artist pronounces her Yoruba name “Oyinkansola,” noting that she does it exceptionally well despite her American accent.
“Rihanna knows me so well. She knows my movements and how I sing,” Ayra Starr stated. The presenter then mentioned seeing Starr and Rihanna together and asked what they had been discussing.
Ayra Starr stated, “Yes, I can’t remember everything. I was just in awe of her. People often say you shouldn’t meet your idols, but I’m happy I met mine. It gave me so much affirmation. To know that someone I looked up to before starting my career now knows me, even my movements and singing style, is incredible. Rihanna loves music and Afrobeats, and she even knows how to pronounce my name, ‘Oyinkansola,’ perfectly. I was amazed and told her, and she just said she knew. She’s a beautiful person. I adore her so much.”
What was not disclosed was whether collaboration could be in the works but the Beninese-Nigerian singer has started the year off to a great start and topped the pack with her singles “Santa” and “Comma”.
