Actress Tonto Dikeh has commented on the planned youth protest, stating it is unnecessary.
While recognizing the struggles and the right to protest, she proposed more effective methods to address the issues.
She expressed sadness over the economic challenges and increasing cost of living but warned against protests, highlighting the potential for destruction and diversion, as experienced during the #EndSARS protest.
She wrote, “Dear fellow Nigerian youths, I empathize with your frustrations about our nation’s present situation.
The rising prices and economic pressures are difficult, and many are struggling with higher commuting and living costs.
However, a nationwide protest from August 1-10, 2024, might not be the most effective method at this time. This isn’t to downplay the power of protests but to propose a more strategic approach.”
Instead of protests, I suggest forming a representative group to formally communicate with the President. This group can advocate on our behalf, request a meeting to discuss our concerns, and propose solutions. Engaging in meaningful dialogue and community development can lead to positive change and unity.
The economic challenges impact everyone, and addressing them through peaceful and diplomatic means might be more effective. Let’s come together and strive for a better Nigeria. I encourage you to consider alternative ways to make your voices heard and work towards a brighter future.
She concluded with the caption: “Sometimes we can be right, but how we express ourselves is important. This is a sincere plea to all Nigerian youths—LET’S MAKE SMART CHOICES.”
