Peter Obi has urged that all activities celebrating his 63rd birthday be directed towards helping the poor in Nigeria.

In a statement by his media aide, Dr. Tanko Yunusa, Obi stated that he will turn 63 on Friday, July 19, 2024, and expressed his preference for all celebratory activities to be directed towards helping the poor and needy.

Writing on his X handle on Wednesday ahead of the day Obi said he would wish for a solemn celebration as usual especially now that the poor and the needy are swelling in our midst.

He stated, “On Friday, July 19th, I will celebrate my 63rd birthday. As usual, this occasion serves as a moment for personal reflection and gratitude to Almighty God for granting me life, good health, and the chance to contribute to the improvement of humanity.”

“I am touched by the many well-wishers, both from within the country and abroad, who have already started sending birthday wishes and also arranging events in my honor.

“My request to my supporters, especially in Nigeria and Africa, is to take this opportunity to earnestly pray for our nation and their respective countries.”

Let us, as political leaders, offer ourselves to God so He may touch our hearts to make sacrifices, use public resources for the greater good, and focus on the needs of the poor and marginalized. We should also work to create better opportunities for our youth to succeed.

He added: “For those arranging events and spending money to celebrate my birthday, I kindly ask that you redirect those resources to support the needy, especially those in hospitals and schools. Your contributions can help cover medical bills and school fees for the less privileged.

“I also request that any birthday gifts be donated to care homes, schools, and hospitals, as they will greatly benefit from your generosity.”

“I have personally redirected the funds I would have used for celebrations to support crucial areas like health, education, and poverty alleviation.

“I firmly believe that by making these sacrifices, God Almighty will grant your sincere wishes for me and answer our prayers.”
