A lone accident that happened on the campus of the University of Ilorin on Thursday claimed one life while nine others sustained different degrees of injury.
The accident involved a ten-seater commercial bus transporting passengers from the campus to the town after the day’s work.
A statement from the University’s Director of Corporate Affairs, Kunle Akogun, reported that the lone accident that happened involved a commercial bus carrying ten passengers as it was leaving the campus.
However, he did not mention whether the victim of the accident was a student or a worker of the institution.
The management of the University of Ilorin is saddened to reveal the occurrence of a motor accident on campus this afternoon.
As soon as it happened, the University Management quickly commenced rescue operations, and all the victims were moved to the University Health Centre. They were attended to by a team of medical personnel at the University Health Centre,” the statement stated.
He stated that although one person died in the accident, five others were seriously injured.
Akogun states that one of the injured required advanced treatment and was referred to the University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital after being stabilized.
Four people had minor injuries, they were treated and discharged. Five victims, comprised of two males, two females, and the driver, are presently being treated at the University Health Centre.
Unfortunately, one of the victims was brought in dead. The body has been transferred to the morgue, and the University management is working to contact the next of kin.
The Management deeply regrets this unfortunate incident, extends condolences to the family of the deceased, and prays for God’s comfort for them. We also pray for the swift recovery of the injured victims.
